Lost Chicago Department Stores with Leslie Goddard

September 3 | 7-8P | DuPage County Historical Museum Auditorium | Free

For decades, Chicago was home to some of America’s grandest department stores. Clustered along a mile-long stretch of State Street, stores like Marshall Field’s; Carson, Pirie, Scott; Sears; Wieboldt’s; Montgomery Ward’s; and Goldblatt’s set new standards for retail innovation, customer service and visual display. Generations of Chicagoans trekked to these stores for holiday shopping, celebrations, and fun. In this fun, nostalgic illustrated lecture, based on her 2022 book, historian and author Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., revisits Chicago’s fabulous retail emporiums and explores their rise and fall.

Admission to the DuPage County Historical Museum is free. Donations are greatly appreciated to help create new exhibits and keep our facility open and operating. A suggested donation amount for adults is $5 and $2 for children and seniors.
